11. Apply as a volunteer

If you or someone you know is interested in apply as a volunteer to help at the club we would love to hear from you.

We have nearly 150 volunteers at Chelmsford RFC in a range of Coaching, Medical, Team Administration, Safeguarding and Committee roles. Volunteers really are the lifeblood of CRFC and your generous offer of your time and your skills is critical to our growth as a club.

The club has committed to implementing the RFU's safer recruitment process. This puts a responsibility on the club to carefully vet all prospective volunteers and ensure that they are suitable for the roles they are offering to help with. This is especially important when it comes to any volunteers that may be working with children and/or vunerable adults.

The first step in becoming a volunteer is the completion of the RFC Volunteer Application & Self Declaration Form. When completing the form you will need to provide two references which you are happy for the club to contact in order to progress your application.

If you are likely to be working with children or taking part in regulated activity you will need to undertake a DBS check. The Club Safeguarding Officer (CSO) will get in touch to arrange this if it is required. More information is included below on this process and the procedure for a non-standard check.

Once your DBS certificate is issued, you will have a short induction to ensure you are equipped with what you need to start volunteering. We will work with you to identify any additional training you require and ensure you are supported as much as possible.

Our Volunteering handbook (attached below) contains more information on this process and the other policies and procedures that may help you in your role at Chelmsford RFC.

The final step in becoming a club volunteer is to sign a simple volunteering agreement that sets out the responsibilities of the club and you as a volunteer.
