The U6s are a team for girls' and boys who are in Year 1 or Reception at school (as long as they are 5 before 31st December).
We train on Sunday mornings from 9am to 10am, close to the clubhouse. New players always welcome. Please read more for details on how to get involved.
For children that are still too young to play (or that won't cope well with independent activity), the club recommends "Little Scrummers" as a good stopgap for children who will later join the club. Little Scrummers are not part of Chelmsford RFC but they do train at the park on Saturdays – please go to www.littlescrummers.com for more information.
All Chelmsford RFC sessions are led by DBS checked volunteer coaches, mostly made up mostly from parents from the group, many of whom will go on to coach the children all the way up to adult rugby, and with support from experienced coaches from our older age groups.
New Volunteers are always welcomed. The club provides support and training for all our volunteers and typically the more parents that get involved, the better the experience is for the kids (and for you as parents). No rugby experience is necessary, and it will be one of the most rewarding decisions you ever make! The graduated nature of the RFU Development Pathway means that new elements of the game are added slowly over the course of 5-6 years giving you and the kids the chance to learn as you go!
Our u6 sessions are designed to give kids an introduction to rugby and we play a range of games designed to encourage and develop their agility, balance, coordination and ball handling skills. The focus is very much on having fun. It is all non-contact and the kids don't play any competitive tag/touch rugby fixtures until they start year 2 at school (In fact, junior rugby remains non-contact until the kids start year 4 at school).
Parents are expected to stay of the duration of all training sessions and matches.
All new players have the opportunity of up to 3 trial sessions before deciding to join the club. Parents are asked to join our Spond Group prior their first session (this is so we have contact details etc in case of emergencies)

When you are ready to join the club, you sent details on how to register with the RFU and purchase your family membership. Family Membership (with one u7 player) for the 24/25 season is £6 per month (or £72 per annum). Playing kit can be purchased from https://www.redsportswear.co.uk/chelmsford-rugby-club
If you have any questions or to let me know you are coming to a trial session, please don't hesitate to contact me.
