In what can only be described as the most appalling playing conditions, the Bluebirds were keen to put on a show for their first home game of 2025. Playing uphill the first half, the Bluebirds went ahead in the first 5 minutes as Karly Harrington dabbed the ball down as it was taken back over the try line by the Chesham defence. Continuing to apply the pressure with some dominant forward play, the Bluebirds added a second to warm the now drenched supporters (and coaches), with Lillie Barnett touching down and vice-captain Jess Matthews calmly slotting the extras. 12-0.

Midway through the first half and the pitch now looking like ploughed field, the Bluebirds further extended their lead with captain Ella Alderton getting over the line, Jess Matthews again on hand to add the conversion. 19-0. Chesham then responded with their first try shortly after, and then 7 minutes from halftime, the Bluebirds scored the try of the day, some excellent phases of forwards play in the midfield and the great hands by the backs to get the ball into the wide channel for Chloe Hockey to score her first of the season and give the ladies in Blue and White the try bonus point and a 24-5 half time lead.

Starting the second half with 12 player due to injury, Chesham were quick out the blocks in rapidly deteriorating weather to chalk up second shortly after the break. Not to be outdone, Lillie Barnett added her second and the Bluebirds 5th try. Chesham hit back again to make it 29-15, however Jess Matthews calmed the nerves and went over for the Bluebirds 6th try of the game and with it seal a deserved bonus point win.

All credit to both teams, supporters and the referee who got in on the mudslide shenanigans at the end (legend) for seeing out the game. The Bluebirds have a bit of a break but are back at Coronation Park on the 23rd Feb to host Thurrock Ladies II.
