In a game that had been rescheduled from the previous Saturday, Chelmsford 3rd XV entertained Runwell Wyverns in a cup semi final were second played third from their league position of Essex Merit Table 3 East. A dry pitch saw Runwell play down the slope and with most players daubed in 'vaseline' the game got underway.

Runwell, big up front with a few ball players in the pack, picked and drove at every opportunity and were soon two tries up from this exact tactic - Chelmsford 0 Runwell 10. The 3rd XV needed to tackle lower and spin the ball wide to get back in the game. The backs had a familiar look with Crouch at fly half, Dawson and Cramphorn in the centres and Hayward brothers at wing and fullback respectively.

The first try Chelmsford try came from good interplay between forwards and backs. Joe Styrin at scrum half found Jamie Calver in the loose who made good yards. This gave the backs ball on the front foot, enabling Dawson to reach the 'danger zone' and Chris Seeley to drive over to score. Half time - Chelmsford 5 Runwell 10.

Now playing with the slope and the wind in the second half Chelmsford were surely in the 'driving seat'. A number of replacements at half time saw new energy in the team and Sam Degan scored the second try after pressure on the Runwell tryline and the game was level. The next try who certainly be important as more pressure saw Scott Turner splash over - Chelmsford 15 Runwell 10.

At this stage in the game, bodies were starting to get tired and sore. Runwell found another gear and deservedly scored up the slope. The quality of kicking from either side wasn't the best and with the conversion missed the final score read - Chelmsford 15 Runwell 15. With neither side knowing what to do next, Lee Moore made the right decision and said that Runwell should progress to finals day as they had been happy to reschedule the game from last weekend.
