A rearranged game versus Basildon 2nd XV saw faces old and new assemble to create Chelmsford 3rd XV.
Playing up the slope but with the wind behind them, the third XV started with a bang. Steve Allen, Jamie Calver and Tom Rowe were more than happy to take the ball into contact giving the backs good clean ball. Jobi Fisher, Nick Crouch, Dave Cramphorn and Mike Dawson were exploiting the space as the two sides traded some early tries - Chelmsford 14 Basildon 7.
After 20 minutes Chelmsford found themselves down to 14 men as matador Sergio Gordon saw red!. This however seemed to galvanise the group and further tries from Dawson and Hayward made the half time score - Chelmsford 28 Basildon 14.
With a great match day squad the 'experience' was replaced by the 'youth'. Pete Baya, Will Knight, Elliot Sweeney and Vaughn Akala were all on the pitch that showed how grassroots rugby should be played. The game continued to 'ebb and flow' with both sides scoring some good tries.
Talisman Crouch and Fisher scored with 'ju' under the posts and all the players were having great fun. Eight tries to four tries. Chelmsford 48 Basildon 28 and off to the bar to watch Wales versus England in Cardiff. Would England play as well?!
