The Chelmsford 2nd XV had not played in a while so it was really important to regroup and get a game on! The Blueboys B XV travelled along the A12 to Brentwood and arrived at King George’s Playing Fields with a strong looking side.
With ex Brentwood player James McLaughlan winning the toss, Chelmsford played down the notorious slope in the first half and tries were soon aplenty. Justin Young, the man whose mantra is to always be available, was the first to score.
Further tries came from Aedan McArthur, Frankie Hart, Charlie Sims and Henry Payne which saw Chelmsford gallop into a 31-0 lead with Joe Styrin kicking accurately from the tee. With the opportunity of giving some important minutes to Lloyd Ellis and Ollie George arising, the energy and enthusiasm to play expansive rugby was apparent.
George Wood was now running the midfield and as further space became available he, Fage and again Hart scored to make it eight ties in the first half with five conversions - Brentwood 0 Chelmsford 50.
Playing up the slope and with a shortened half Chelmsford scored two further converted tries from George and Fage to conclude the game.
With a tough game against Harlow on the horizon it was good for the group to get some minutes in a real game situation. Thanks to Brentwood for fulfilling the fixture.
