A 2nd XV home game. Sun in the sky and England v Scotland after the match. The stage was set for a good day.
Having played the previous week, Chelmsford 2nd XV again had a strong side out. Jack Acorn was the first to score as James McLaughlan started to get the backs going in the right direction. Chelmsford 7 Harlow 0. The Harlow side were keen to play a structured game and play through the phases. Chelmsford however wanted to play a quicker game injecting pace onto the ball whenever possible.
The second try came from a ‘catch and drive’ from a line-out. Harlow decided not to contest the throw enabling captain Alex Gardner to score the second try with ease. After some try line pressure the third score was given as a penalty under the posts that saw the half time score as Chelmsford 19 Harlow 0.
Now playing up the slope in the second half the message was to try and keep the penalty count down. With a strong bench to unload Pete Baya was asked to give his all for the first five minutes of the half and that he did scoring a fine individual effort under the posts - Chelmsford 26 Harlow 0.
Harlow were not giving up easily however and scored their first try after 50 minutes. Bayley Eden scored try five for the Blueboys and the Redmen added some colour to the proceeding with their second - Chelmsford 33 Harlow 12.
With the finishers now on of Ugo Eze, Henry Payne, Matt Jefferson, Scott Turner and Will Knight the wheels kept on turning as Eze crashing over to score the final Chelmsford try. Harlow again dotted down at the end of the game to make the final score - Chelmsford 40 Harlow 17.
