Although the results on the pitch were not quite what we had hoped for, the clubhouse was packed as members from all sections of the club came together to celebrate Super Saturday at Chelmsford RFC.
The day started with a buffet lunch which was attended by over 40 guests including visitors from Southend RFC who had made the short journey to the club. It was standing room only as the Italy v England and Wales v Scotland games played out on the big screens inside. We were really please to see so many families and kids at the club for a Saturday match and many stayed late into the night to enjoy the band ā Fortunate Sons ā who provided our post match entertainment.
On the pitch, our Men's 1st XV raced to an early lead against league leaders Southend RFC but mistakes cost the Blueboys dearly as they let a shell shocked Southend back into the game. Chelmsford lost the game 25-35 but head coach Chris Green will take lots of positives from a much improved performance.
Our Men's 2nd XV game against Harlow RFC was an exciting end to end battle that resulted in a 31 ā 31 draw come the final whistle while the 3rd XV game was brought to an early finish due to a serious injury with the game balanced at 17-26 to our visitors from Basildon RFC. We are pleased to report that the injured player was released from hospital later that evening and is expected to make a complete recovery.
Our weekend did finish on a high as our 1st XV Ladies returned to winning ways with a 22-10 victory over London Welsh at Coronation Park. Elsewhere, there were wins for the u13s, u14s (home to Southend), u15s (away to Wanstead), u16s (away to Rochford) while the Colts lost in tight fixture at Southend losing 14-12.
A massive thank to all our clubhouse staff for their efforts this weekend. A wonderful lunch, followed by players meals for 3 teams in a clubhouse packed out with members watching Six Nations games is no easy task but Jane, Justina and her fantastic team did an amazing job!
